Do you want to become a Divemaster and do marine conservation? Join our project and do both! Do your Divemaster at Gili Shark Conservation Project and you can contribute to marine conservation while gaining your PADI Divemaster qualification too.
Want to know what our marine conservation project is about?
The Gili Shark Conservation Project is an award-winning grassroots organization. We’re based on the beautiful paradise island of Gili Air, Indonesia. Our research team (which could include you!) join us from all over the world.
We work year-round to promote conservation efforts through education and research. We collect abundance data in the Gili Matra Marine Recreational Reserve. We assess the health of the environment and act to enhance marine protection and health.
You don’t need to be a shark expert to join! Anyone with a passion and commitment to marine conservation is welcome.
If you want to make a difference while doing your Divemaster internship, come and join us! We work closely together and have a family-like atmosphere. At most, we will have 10 participants (AKA Shark Warriors, or Sharkies!) at a time. You’ll be a critical member of the team.

We’ll let the Divemaster Sharkies convince you
People join us from all over the world for many reasons. Because they love the ocean and all its contents! Because they love sharks and scuba diving. Or if they’re considering pursuing a career in marine conservation.
Get inspired by some of the Sharkies who’re doing their Divemaster internship now!
Emma – “I think it’s really cool how much focus is put on diving (and living) sustainably and learning how to help protect fragile ocean ecosystems. Especially becoming a professional, I can pass that on to people I work with in the future.”
Janaya – “It built my confidence as both a diver and a person. I learned that I can do things I’d previously doubted I could, and do them well. Also, I feel more able to contribute to saving our oceans, which is extremely crucial at this time.”
Sam – “The project gave me the ability to become a top-notch professional diver and at the same time learn and contribute to ocean conservation. The research is real and important – and so were the amazing friends I made along the way!“
Martin – “It provided me with the best combination of contributing to a worthy cause in marine conservation and getting DM qualified. I thoroughly enjoyed the mix of assisting with research related dives and assisting the dive Instructors from Oceans5 with their students. My experience with the Sharkies and Oceans5 will forever remain with me.”
Come and join them!
