Fueling Up Energy through Marine Conservation Project

By Joana Chopard

Hi, my name is Joana, I’m a 26-year-old graphic designer from Switzerland. Even though I truly love my job, it often drains much of my energy. It makes me forget how beautiful the world is and rarely leaves me with time to explore it.

So… big break! For my health – and for my heart – I decided to do something that’s good for the planet, lets me live out my passion for diving, and allows me to use my hands instead of staring at a screen all day.

Looking back, I can honestly say it’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Even though I used my vacation time to work, I’ve never felt so full of energy, joy, and love. The people here welcome you with so much warmth and genuine happiness, you feel like part of the family from day one.

And honestly, helping out on a project like this brought me so much joy – even if I did have a few underwater fights with tiny fish while cleaning the hexdomes.

Also worth mentioning: I’m not yet 100% fluent in English, but every lecture was easy to follow and super interesting.

In the end, the hardest part of this whole experience was going back to the “old world.” But as they say, you always meet twice in life – and I really hope to be back here again soon.
