To the Deep Blue – Falling for the Boundless and Eternal

By: Monica

You are why I still draw breath. You are the love of my life. I wish to forever sink into your embrace.

You are life itself.

My first encounter with diving came in the darkest hour of my life. I was suffering from great pain, I have no hope, lying in a hospital bed, I saw a diving video of the undersea world. Deeply captivated, I vowed to overcome all odds – the first thing after leaving the hospital would be to learn to dive. I was fifteen. In the boundless Pacific, I saw hope. I saw great love and eternity.

Later, through repeated struggles with illness, a resolve blossomed within me: I want to protect you – Sea. For you gave me hope. You gave me strength. You are the source of all existence.

Here at Gili Shark Conservation, I met so many beautiful, kindred souls. They burned with such passion, such beauty – dazzling like the sunset after a storm.

Thank you, deep blue. You are so embracing. You nurture all life. You gave us existence. You are the most beautiful being.

I’m sorry, deep blue. We have failed you. We have wounded you. How I long to wrap you in a vast embrace, to press a deep kiss upon you, to soothe your scars.

I imagine you must be a romantic. So tender are you – in every wave and flow, I am flushed with intoxication, lost in your depths. I gaze up at you; you hold me close. Sinking into your tenderness, you whisper stories of ages past. And I simply listen. I simply fall deeply, deeply in love.
